American Literature students enjoy exploring the theme of dreams in poetry. We read A Dream Within a Dream by Edgar Allan Poe, I Dream’d in a Dream by Walt Whitman, Dreams in The Dusk by Carl Sandburg, and Hold Fast to Dreams by Langston Hughes. Students also record their dreams throughout the week, which leads to some great discussions and writing. I am happy to offer my lesson plans for this poetry unit here.
